Your Revolutionary Leader is Here – A Response to the Women’s March in Washington DC

Written by Bunni Pounds (Guest Writer & Consultant for Texas Eagle Forum)

Over 10 years ago, I launched into the world of professional politics because of many things – I had a man who believed in me, U.S. Congressman Jeb Hensarling (TX-05), I was inspired by the lives of Karen Hughes, Special Counselor to President George W. Bush and Peter Robinson, speechwriter for President Ronald Reagan, and I was addicted to West Wing (Yes, the liberal TV show) – but most of all I wanted to serve Jesus. I wanted to be a missionary to America and to make a difference in our culture and I had a vision for how my life could make a difference in this field.

You could have never convinced me a decade ago that I would still be serving Congressman Hensarling as his campaign manager and Texas fundraiser or that I would launch my own campaign consulting and fundraising firm and to be able to serve Members of Congress, State Senators, State Representatives, organizations like Texas Eagle Forum, or even our brilliant Fifth Court of Appeals Justices.

I am living my dream right now. I am a successful woman in politics who has “broken the glass ceiling” and every day I get to wake up and encourage my clients to serve the people of America or Texas with integrity and believe in the call of God on their lives.

The women in Washington DC this week that were marching after the inauguration would tell us here that we are oppressed as women and that we can’t reach the potential of our male counterparts in this country.

They are angry at our new President Donald Trump for words he spoke over a decade ago and they are deceived to think that he will treat them – the American women- with the same disrespect that he demonstrated that one day on the set of NBC.

The truth is that these women marching are looking high and low for significance. They want someone to believe in them and tell them that they can be all that they hope and dream. They want to turn off the voices of the people in their lives who have spoken rejection over them, the fathers who have not loved them in the way that they should have been loved, or the culture that screams at them every day that if they want to “make it” they are going to have to claw their way to the top with all their might.

This is my message for these women – your revolutionary leader is here. Jesus has the ultimate life-giving message for women all over this country.

He says – You are free! Free to be yourselves. Free to be who I created you to be. Free to share the story of your life and my gospel. I love you just as you are. If you want to do something – do it. If you want to follow your dreams – follow them. Believe in yourself and who I have created you to be.

In Matthew 28 in the story of the resurrection, these beautiful women came to the tomb looking for Jesus, wanting to be near Him. They were seeking Him and wanting to show Him their affection. He had changed their lives. He had accepted them as equals. He had received them as followers and disciples.

In the moment that changed all of history, Jesus appeared to them in His resurrected body. He loved them, He believed in them and He commissioned them to be the first evangelists of the greatest story ever told.  He sent them to tell the men that He was alive. Mind-blowing thought for the day in time that they lived!

Jesus today loves the seeking hearts of women who love Him passionately and fervently.

Galatians 3:28 says, “There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”

My response to these women who are marching and women who are looking for significance – if you want to meet the ultimate revolutionary, the only one who really accepts you and loves you – let me introduce you to Jesus. He is the ultimate freedom fighter for His women. He absolutely thinks you are amazing! He just wants you to see yourself the way He sees you.

I am who I am today because Congressman Hensarling thought, “I think this woman who sold pest control for a living can do this. I think I believe in her enough to give her a chance. If she sold bugs – she can sell me.”

I am who I am today because I had a father who always thought I was a world-changer and told me I could do whatever I wanted in life – preach the Word of God to thousands of people or stand next to elected officials.

In the end, I get to live my dream today because the Man, Christ Jesus, believes in me. He stands beside me every day and speaks significance and identity into my heart. He is the one who laid down all His power to come to earth as a humble man and die on a rugged cross to redeem my life.

In the moments that he was dying He thought of me and He thought of you.

Hebrews 12:2 says – “For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

The moment I became free was the moment I realized that I was the JOY in His heart. I was the thought that helped Him endure that torment and pain. He believed so strongly in me that He gave it all.

Jesus is my revolutionary and He is the ultimate freedom for women all over America and all over the world.

I am loved by Jesus and commissioned by Him. I am already free. Join me in the revolution of ultimate freedom.

The Top 5 – January 23, 2017

Our desire is to keep you informed during this legislative session on a weekly basis. We want you to know what is going on, what we are working on, and how you can be involved. Many people don’t get involved with politics because they don’t know what to do – the world of politics seem so massive and big. “Where do we start?”, they ask. We want to attempt to break it down for each of us at the beginning of each week and we are going to call this the TOP 5. This is the top 5 ways you and your friends can be involved this week in the work of Texas Eagle Forum and make an impact on your state.

#1 Now that our new President Donald J. Trump and our new Vice President Mike Pence has been sworn in along with our State Legislature the week before – keep praying for our leaders. As Minister Franklin Graham highlighted in his inaugural prayer- he quoted 1 Timothy 2 – “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people—  for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all people.”

#2 Plan to attend and bring a group to join us for the TEXAS FAITH AND FAMILY DAY down in Austin on March 16th. Join us for a day where we make a difference together in Austin. We will share information about the legislation currently on the table during the 85th Texas Legislative Session important to our family values community. Come share your thoughts and hearts with your elected officials as we hit offices together. We would love to you to bring a car of 4 people or a bus load of people. Whatever you can do to bring your family and friends down to participate in this incredible day is so important. We want TEF to be well represented in Austin that day. We are even having a dinner the night before along with our conservative partners. Check out all of the details here: http://texasfaithandfamily.com/

#3 Do you know who your legislators are? Know who your State Senator and State Representative are and know their office numbers. Go to www.legis.state.tx.us and on the right hand side – put in your address where it says “Who Represents Me?” Once you have the information of who your legislators are, print off that page and put the numbers in your cellphone or on your refrigerator. You will need them.

#4 Go to www.legis.state.tx.us and sign up to follow the top bills that interest you whether that is on education, life, border security, etc. When you do that you will know where they are in the process and can reach out to your legislators. Create a Login so that you can follow bills. After you have an account – go to “Search Legislation” on the home page. When you see a bill you want to follow, click on it and then click “Add to Alert List” so that you get alerts when something changes on this bill. You can read about our whole legislative agenda for the 2017 85th Session here on our blog. We would love for you to participate and help us communicate the value of these bills to our state legislators.

Introducing Bethany Jarrell – Our New TEF Intern

From Trayce Bradford– Texas Eagle Forum President: I have known Bethany Jarrell for over a decade and have watched her go from a bubbly pre-teen to a lovely, wise young woman.  We connected very quickly because of our love for God and government.  Bethany is a go-getter with a sharp mind and a smile for everyone.  I have seen her pursue her passion for government through Patriot Academy, getting involved at her church, and she has excelled in speech, theatre, and debate.  What I am most impressed with about Bethany is her willingness to wait on God’s direction.  I am so excited to work with her this session and I am thrilled for each of you to get to know her as well.

Here are Bethany’s thoughts from the first day of the session:

I first found myself on the steps of our great Capitol in Austin at a young and certainly impressionable age. The awe that impacted me at age 9 has not diminished in the last decade and a half. After all these years and countless ventures to the Capitol Building, this was my first opportunity to experience the swearing in of the House and Senate. There was a hovering sense of expectation and optimism as people rushed about their duties. It seemed as though everyone knew they stood on the precipice of a new beginning, hopeful in their belief that this was not a day for politicking but one of celebration. The collection of legislators gathered to be sworn in, regardless of party lines or alliances forged over time, were in this day united in their resolute forward focus. As the families sat with their elected loved ones, I was reminded that this great state of ours, Texas, is only great because of the dedicated and steadfast spirit that brought each person to that room. The determination we Texans have to succeed in our attempts to fight for our beliefs, our families, and our friends was encapsulated in the moment the right hands were raised and the oath of office taken. Tomorrow will bring the healthy debates, the mind melting tension, as well as the subtle and not-so-subtle attempts to align oneself in a manner that will bring about the desired results, but for today, we are one. Today, we are Texas.

Conservative agenda for the 2017 85th Session of the Texas Legislature

Here are the groups within the State of Texas that have committed to join together on this conservative agenda for the Texas Legislature – Concerned Women for America, Conservative Republicans of Texas, Direct Action Texas, Empower Texans, Grassroots America We the People, NE Tarrant County Tea Party, Texas Eagle Forum, Texas Home School Coalition Association, Texas Right to Life, and Texas Values Action.

The majority of elected state legislators believes in and has committed to the principles of limited government, ethical standards, individual liberty, economic freedom, and transparent, high-quality, efficient, and effective services for taxpayers. With a majority-Republican legislature and all-Republican statewide leadership, the success of the 85th Session of the Texas Legislature is dependent on the passage of ALL the following protections for all Texans—born and unborn.  (Most of these measures are specified in the 2016 party platform of the Republican Party of Texas.)

First Amendment Rights: Definitively protect the religious liberties of individuals, government employees, counselors, business owners (including, but not limited to, faith-based care facilities), and adoption agencies; and protect and preserve First Amendment rights, including freedom of speech (including political speech), freedom of assembly, freedom of association, and the requisite due process for all who exercise these constitutional rights (SB 14, SB 107).

Property Owner and Taxpayer Protections: Limit the growth of government (Article VIII, Section 22) to the lower rate of either population growth combined with inflation or change in the gross state product (for the two fiscal years immediately preceding a regular session of the Texas Legislature) (SB 9); require voter approval when local governments and/or local taxing entities seek to increase the tax rate by more than 3% (SB 2); eliminate the franchise tax (SB 72, SB 112); eliminate the “Robinhood” pyramid from public school finance (SB 286); require a supermajority vote in the legislature for taxes to be raised; enact zero-based, program-based budgeting (SB 272, HB 114); and eliminate all forms of corporate subsidies and welfare in favor of free market principles (SB 105), (including, but not limited to, the Texas Enterprise Fund (SB 100, SB 393), Events Trust Fund (SB 389, SB 390, & 392), and the Texas Moving Image Industry Incentives (SB 99, SB 244, HB 779).

Protect Life: Ban abortion by dismemberment to end the trafficking of the body parts of victims of abortion (SB 415 & HB 844); close the loopholes in state laws that do not protect unborn children with disabilities from abortion; enact an overarching budget patch to render Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers ineligible for one cent of state money; and repeal the Texas Advance Directives Act of 1999 to safeguard vulnerable patients from hospital death panels and quality of value judgments imposed by hospital personnel.

Transparency at ALL Levels of Government: Ban taxpayer-funded lobbying (SB 137); mandate disclosure of government contracts and possible conflicts of interest by all public and elected officials and their family members; restrict elected and public officials from registered lobbying until two years after leaving office (HB 444); end collusion between governments and unions by prohibiting all state and local government entities from deducting union dues from the paychecks of employees; separate legislative salaries/pensions from judicial salaries/pensions; end pensions for all current and former elected officials five years after leaving the last office held; and ban the practice known as double-dipping—the practice of elected officials of retiring on paper, while still in office, in order to draw early pension benefits.

Texas Privacy Protection Act: Protect privacy, safety, and dignity in restrooms, showers, and locker rooms of government and school buildings; prevent men from using women’s facilities; and protect the decisions of private businesses regarding the use of certain facilities (SB 6).

Education Equitability: Apply free market principles to education; empower parents with more options for the education of their children; improve transparency in schools (SB 242) and districts; eliminate the “Robinhood” pyramid from public school finance (HB 286); protect private schools from government regulation; require parental notification/opt-out regarding curriculum; and remove federal curriculum influence from Texas public schools.

Parental Rights: Increase evidentiary standards that must be met before a child can be removed from his/her fit parents, and, in doing so, stop the disruptive, unnecessary, and harmful investigations of families; mandate that CPS agents meet statutory deadlines or face sanctions; ensure that families and parents are assumed innocent until proven guilty; expedite family court proceedings to avoid years of divisive litigation; and nullify courts’ use of indefinite “temporary orders” to remove children from their homes for years without cause.

American Law for American Courts: Clarify that a state court may not apply foreign law that would violate fundamental, constitutional rights (HB 45).

Ensure the Integrity of Elections: Empower the Office of the Attorney General to enforce laws against the commission of election fraud (SB 245); mandate that county election administrators meet the statutory requirement to make ballot data available on the day following the election; reform the application process and use of ballot by mail (HB 531); pass a court-proof photo identification mandate for all voters (SB 153); require preservation of ballot images and paper backups to electronic voting; make election dates uniform (SB 363, HB 151); end rolling polling so that voting locations cannot be moved during an election (HB 675); and close Texas primary elections.

Secure the Texas Power Grid: Buttress Texas’ electrical grid against natural disasters as well as manmade attacks to shield the lives and economic livelihood of Texans (SB 83).

Your financial support of Texas Eagle Forum enables us to continue our work and fight for these values that we hold dear. Help us here.

It’s Time to Push Back, Texas!

As a wife and a mother of seven children and the President of Texas Eagle Forum, one of the leading organizations defending families and religious liberties in Texas, I believe that our state must lead the way and protect the privacy of women and children here in Texas.

I believe that the recent report “The Economic Impact of Discriminatory Legislation on the State of Texas” put out by the Texas Association of Business to “encourage” the Texas legislature to take a back seat on these issues should be seen for what it is.

As I said in my previous statement “The report gives an estimate of proposed losses (with quite a variance) – $964 million to $8.5 billion, however, there is no mention of the impact on women and children when their privacy and safety is violated, or the losses to those healthy businesses, careers and churches when they are targeted because of their faith.”

I wanted to share a statement from our good friends, the Benham Brothers, who are in the middle of their own fight in North Carolina. This statement is concerning this recent TAB report. I encourage you to hear them and hear them well.

“To those that seek to take away religious freedom and threaten the privacy of women and children in the state of Texas we have one message, ‘Don’t mess with Texas!’

The great people in the state where we grew up aren’t afraid of speculative, threatening economic reports, and they refuse to be told what they can and can’t believe. The recent report from the Texas Association of Business is the nothing less than a manipulated intimidation tactic meant to force Texans to submit to the radical, sexual revolution. These are the same tactics that were used in our state of North Carolina.

Yet despite them all NC not only withstood the attacks but surged economically. Click here for a few simple facts.

It’s time to push back, Texas. It’s time we stop letting ourselves get bullied by manipulated reports and overinflated sound bites from the left. The facts are the facts: women and children deserve privacy and safety in restrooms and locker rooms–and Texans should be free to believe and live out their beliefs in every area of their lives.”

Also our own Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick put out this courageous statement on December 22nd.

“I congratulate the conservative legislators in North Carolina and the leadership of my good friend, Lt. Gov. Dan Forest, for standing firm on principle and public safety. Legislation like this is essential to protect the safety and privacy of women and girls, and is simple common sense and common decency.

“Legislation to protect women’s privacy and business is essential to assure that sexual predators, like those who exploit the internet, will not be able to freely enter women’s restrooms, locker rooms or showers and that businesses are not forced by local ordinances to allow men in women’s restrooms and locker rooms. The left and the liberal media who oppose this legislation don’t understand it, but the people do. This is not discrimination against any individual or the targeting of any group. It is supported by the overwhelming majority of both political parties and every racial and ethnic group in Texas.”

North Carolina had been pressured by groups advocating that they abandon House Bill 2 in favor of the politically correct position advocated by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and others which demand no restrictions regarding public restrooms, locker rooms and showers. The North Carolina Senate voted down a bill to repeal House Bill 2 and the House adjourned without acting.”

From my heart of hearts – I want to say a big “THANK YOU” to these courageous men for taking the narrow road and not compromising on that is right. The TAB will hear us this next legislative session when we say together – Don’t mess with Texas!

Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace

Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace Is. 9:6 NIV

There is no better way to communicate a Christmas greeting than through the greatest story ever told and the most lavish gift ever given! We at Texas Eagle Forum want to wish you and your family a Blessed and Merry CHRISTmas and a Joy-filled New Year!

The Birth of Jesus

“In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while[a] Quirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to their own town to register.
So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.
And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
“Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”
When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”
So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.
On the eighth day, when it was time to circumcise the child, he was named Jesus, the name the angel had given him before he was conceived.”
